My interest in music began at a very early age. I was probably four years old when I got my first guitar as a Christmas gift from my late grandfather, Millard P. Warren. I can remember as a child my dad (Barry) casually sitting around the house with his guitar, singing songs that were recorded by Country Music Legends like Merle Haggard & George Jones and that’s when I fell in love with music.
At the age of 15 I joined a country/southern rock band playing the bass guitar. Our band (Heartbeat Express) performed in local clubs playing everything from Bob Seger to Keith Whitley. It was during this time that I was able to work on timing and chord progression to different types of beats that would help me in the development of my "ear for music".
At the age of 19 I visited a small Pentecostal church in Geneva, Kentucky and heard a different type of music that I absolutely fell in love with. My experience in church had been very limited as a child and most "church" songs that I had heard were just traditional church hymns played mostly with the accompaniment of an organ. However, in this small Pentecostal church I was introduced to upbeat hymns and southern gospel music that was filled with the sound of flat top guitars, thumb style guitar picking, Jerry Lee Lewis style piano playing, bluegrass banjo, and three part harmony singing that really amazed me! My interest in this type of music peaked and it was there that I gave my life to Jesus Christ! From that point in my life I began a commitment to singing for Jesus! I've traveled to churches, schools, prisons, benefit singings, and many other places singing the songs I've learned from some of the greatest musicians and singers in the Pentecostal church. My understanding of "it's more than just singing a good song" became more clear as I watched, listened, and learned from folks like the late O.C. Robbins, the late Foster "Frog" Azbill, and many others like Rev. Rick Naylor, Rev. Billy Brown, Bro. Dave Lewis, Sis. Dessie Lay, Sis. Edna Griffin, and the Brown Family singers who are all still playing and singing for Jesus today. I have found out that as a musician and singer you're never too old or too good to learn, and I thank God for my training thus far from some of the greatest musicians and singers anywhere in the world.
In 1996 I was married to Heather Wilcher Coulter of McKinney, KY. Heather is a KY Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer and is currently employed with Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset, KY. Heather and I have been married for 26 years and will soon be celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary. We are blessed to have three wonderful children who we couldn’t be more proud of. Spencer, (married to Lauren Holiday Coulter) is 26, Gentry (married to Lane Ogle) is 21, and Jaden is 15, and we are very proud of all of them and the accomplishments they've made so far in their own personal lives. As of 2023, we are proud grandparents to two beautiful babies, Emersyn Klaire Ogle and Noah Todd Coulter!
As of today, I serve as worship leader and senior group youth pastor at Green River Pentecostal Church in Geneva, KY and currently work in the funeral industry as a funeral director at Fox & Friend Funeral Home which is located in Stanford, KY.
Thanks to my wife and children, my family and friends, my songwriting buddies Marty Denton & Pastor Rick Naylor, and my fans for supporting me and the music that I play and sing.
God Bless,
Jason Todd Coulter
